Charles (Chuck) Eugene Landes, 49, of Moncks Corner, a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer, died Sept. 4, 2006 at his residence. The funeral was at 10 a.m., Sept. 6 at Russell Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Biggin Cemetery. Officiating was the Rev. David Clanton. Mr. Landes was born December 11, 1956, in Piqua, Ohio, a son of James D. Landes and Oneta (Butch) Wiley Landes. After graduating from Franklin High School in Franklin, Ohio, Chuck made a career in the Navy serving until his health required him to retire. He was a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed bowling and coached the Saturday Strikers youth league at Swamp Fox Bowling Center for a number of years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin, Ohio, Veterans of Foreign Wars and NCOA. Surviving are his wife, Susan Umphlett Landes of Moncks Corner, two daughters, Lori Landes of Middletown, Ohio; Alena Landes Gale and her husband, Tripp, of Pinopolis; sister, Pam Bunnell and her husband, Todd, of Franklin; and three aunts. Chuck (Pops) was blessed to share the lives of Alyssa Weathersbee, Wyatt Lail, Kayla Lail, Kiersten Lail and Hunter Phillips. They brought him great joy until his last day. Pallbearers were Bryan Ware, James Gregory, Will Umphlett, Daniel Lance, Roger Sheppard, Robert Weathersbee, Butch Livingston.

 Ruth Kingsley Lape, 86, of St. Stephen, SC, widow of Merrill Jay Lape, died Friday evening in a North Charleston hospital.
