Marriage Agreement

and
William Beckham

Whereas marriage is intended and will be shortly solemnized between William H. BECKHAM of Chester Dist. and Elizabeth MASSEY, daughter of late James R. and Elizabeth MASSEY, late of Lancaster District deceased, Elizabeth Massey is possessed in her own right of the following property to wit: the following slaves:
Hark, Flora, Ellis, Maria, Margaret, William, Ann and her child Ned, Osborne, Martin, Tim, John, and Lizzie; and also the following negroes, which she derived and takes under the will of her mother-viz-the slaves Sylvia and her children Jimmy and Daniel and a man named Robin, and where it was agreed and covenanted between said William H. Beckham and Elizabeth Massey that said slaves-together with their future increase-shall be held and remain for the sole and separate use of said Elizabeth, during her lifetime-without said salves being liable for debts of William H. Beckham.
In athe event Elizabeth departs this life, leaving no child or children-slaves to be divided as follows:
1/2 to husband William H. Beckham, remaining 1/2 as follows: 1/5 to James R. Massey, brother of Elizabeth, 1/2 to Sarah Jones, sister of Elizabeth, 1/5 to children of Jane Massey, a deceased sister of Elizabeth, 1/5 to Robert A.R. Cunningham, child of Mary Barnes, the deceased sister of Elizabeth: Dixon Barnes was appointed trustee.
