Sharon Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Yard Cemetery
!PARTIAL LISTING!

Sharon Church is located in the village of that name in western York County. The church was organized in 1796 by members of the neighboring Presbyterian congregations of Beersheba and Bullocks Creek. The split was brought about in an effort, not entirely forgotten today, to continue the use of the Scottish Psalter and “to praise God in his own words,” in preference to the “hymns of human composure” of Isaac Watts, to which the older Presbyterian churches had turned.

The churchyard, all enclosed by a stone wall, consists of three distinct sections. The largest includes almost entirely graves from the early nineteenth century. Behind this section, to the west, is another section which includes a few graves from the early years but not enough to justify systematic transcription. And to the south of the oldest section is a new section of very recent tombstones. The largest and oldest section of the churchyard is listed here.
