Martin Martin died 24 Feb 1837 in Spartanburg County.
"Another relic of the Revolution gone! Died in the vicinity of Cowpens Battleground on the 24th ult., after a protracted illness of several weeks, Mr. Martin Martin, aged about 85 years. The departed entered the regular service in the early part of the War of the Revolution and fought valiantly in several battles under the banner of his country until the close of the same, in one of which he received a deep wound from a British bayonet - not in the back but in the face, the marks thereof attending him to his grave. He was, strictly speaking, an honest man, a good citizen, a kind neighbor, and a faithful friend. He lived and died without an enemy and has left an extensive train of friends and relatives to mourn his exit (ibid.)."

JOSH P. MULLINAX
Spartanburg Herald
Saturday, November 28, 1908.
JOSH MULLINAX
Mr. Editor: Will you give me space for a few brief remarks I desire to speak fair eulogy of our dear and lamented comrade, J.P. MULLINAX, who died in your city on the 29th day of October. J.P. MULLIXAX , JOSH, as the boys called him. JOSH has been a life long friend. We loved him as a brother. He was a brave, a true soldier. JOSH was human and like all humanity had his faults but his faults were worse to himself and he was his own worst enemy. I stood by his side in many hard struggles in the days that tried men's souls. But now our dear comrade is gone and left us to mourn his absence from our departed ranks. JOSH was 3rd lieutenant of Company A, Palmetto Sharpshooters, Jenkins Brigade, Longstreets corps, army of Northern Virginia.
We admired him on the march, in the camp, but more especially on the battlefield. He was kind and patient with the boys and ever ready and willing to lend a helping hand and to make a sacrifice for those around him. Now his rewards is before him and we trust that it is greater and grander than anything of this earthly habitation. With that inspiring and revential awe of the sublimity of men we bow in humble thought of knowing that our dear comrade was a noble type and specimen of God's creatures. We can say of a truth, JOSH MULLINAX was a man of a heroic and manly nature and in common sense of fair dealing was a man above reproach and made just a good of citizen as he made a soldier.
Now that he is gone from us and too, that our days are numbered, may we all meet in that celestial city where the angels of Heaven will echo and re-echo the joyful notes of calling the names of our dear comrades. COL. JOE WALKER, JOSH H. EVANS, COL. J.P. LEGG, LIEUTENANT FLEMING, of Spartanburg, WESLEY GOSS, JOHN KITCHENS, and a host of other from Union and brave boys who we marched to the sweet notes of Dixie with and many of them to death. Oh, how my very soul wells up when I think of those brave men. Peace to their ashes.
by GEORGE G. BUCHANAN, Co. A Palmetto Sharpshooters, Chickasha, Okla. Nov. 22, 1908.
